Dear Evan Hansen, New York City
This season’s surprise hit on Broadway? Dear Evan Hansen. This is due, in large part, to the star of the show, Ben Platt, who is best known for his breakout role as Benji in the Pitch Perfect films. Platt plays the shy, unassuming high schooler Evan Hansen as he maneuvers the pressures of social media, awkward teenage encounters and one lie that may alter the course of his life. With stunning music from Tony-nominated composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul alongside a gripping book by Steven Levenson, this original American musical is a perfect and powerful way to start 2017.
A Bronx Tale, New York City
Step into the Longacre Theatre, and enter the world of a young man named Calogero as he grows up in 1960s New York. The new musical, based on the stage play and film written by Chazz Palminteri, explores the struggles between father and son. The musical takes cues from the classic 1993 film – Robert De Niro also directs this Broadway adaptation. With music by Grammy Award-winner composer Alan Menken, A Bronx Tale delivers a two-hour foray into an era when gangsters owned the streets, and families aimed to rise above it all.
Empire State Building, New York City
The new year brings new vistas. Gaze out at the finest views of Manhattan, from atop the Empire State Building. The Empire State Building towers at an impressive 1,050 feet, and from the 86th floor, you can bask in breathtaking views of Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty and One World Observatory.
La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil, Orlando
In the words of Cirque du Soleil: “Escape to a wondrous world of make-believe to take in exhilarating acts that will stir your imagination.” La Nouba, in the heart of Disney Springs in Orlando, Florida, features an array of stunning acrobatic feats. From an aerial ballet of dancers draped in billowing silks to masterful trampoline footwork to four tenacious maestros, La Nouba is a wonderful reprieve from a busy day at the theme parks.
Blue Man Group, Las Vegas
Spanning 25 years and thousands of performances, Blue Man Group is a staple for any entertainment-seeker. Blue Man Group delivers an evening spectacle of percussive beats, flying marshmallows and – yes! – buckets of blue paint. Ideal for any age, this onstage exhibition marries comedy, music and slapstick to create a memorable work of performance art through three wide-eyed men decked out in the brightest blue.
